Skibbereen Sports Centre is a community run facility and owned by the community.
Minister Joe Walsh officially opened it on May 15th 1992. Since then a full time manager and a full time assistant manager have been employed to manage the centre. Eight part time staff are also employed to assist in the daily operations of the centre. Of the part time staff, four are employed through FÁS on the Community Employment Scheme (C.E).
The centre has twelve voluntary Board of Directors that assist in the operation of the centre who meet bi monthly.
